    How much TDS to deduct?

Enter the payment amount and pick the payment type. We'll find the section, apply the right rate, and show your deposit deadline.

    How TDS works in India

TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) requires the payer to withhold a percentage of certain payments and deposit it with the government. The rate and threshold depend on the section — 194C for contractors, 194J for professional fees, 194I for rent, and more. Deduct only when the payment crosses the section's threshold.

Indian SaaS context: Newer sections catch modern businesses: 194Q (0.1% on goods purchases above ₹50L for buyers with turnover over ₹10Cr) and 194R (10% on benefits and perquisites — the section that trips up D2C brands running influencer campaigns). Missing PAN triggers Sec 206AA and a 20% floor.

    Frequently asked questions

How do I know which TDS section applies?+

It depends on the nature of the payment: contractor work is 194C, professional or technical fees 194J, commission 194H, rent 194I, and so on. Pick the closest description in the dropdown — each maps to the correct section and rate.

What happens if the vendor has no PAN?+

Section 206AA kicks in: TDS is deducted at the higher of the section rate or 20%. So a 194J payment that would normally attract 10% is deducted at 20% if the deductee hasn't furnished a PAN.

When must I deposit the TDS I deduct?+

By the 7th of the month following deduction — except for March, where the deadline is 30 April. Late deposit attracts interest at 1.5% per month, so don't sit on deducted TDS.
